about this blog

The gURL sex ed blog is about educating young women on issues pertaining to sex and sexuality, as well as all the physical, emotional and intellectual issues that come along with the territory. Sounds serious--and it is--but don't worry! Our goal is to provide information and cover a diverse range of topics (even those considered taboo) while presenting it all in an honest and straightforward voice.

Here are just some of the things we'll be talking about: condoms, masturbation, the penis, the clitoris, STD tests, pregnancy, boobs, first times, kissing, the pill and more...(And yes, we'll be updating this blog daily!)

If you have tips, questions or ideas for the blog, send us an email. The address is: feedback@gurl.com. Please use the subject line "sex ed blog tip."

If you want more info about gURL, check out our about gURL page. If you're a parent and concerned about the type of content we produce and/or the manner in which it's presented, please read our note to parents. As always, we encourage feedback and would love to hear your thoughts about this blog or the site in general. Feel free to email us at feedback@gurl.com with the subject line "sex ed blog feedback."

"I would like to know when is the right time to tell your parents your not a virgin?"

** I am not a virgin anymore and I kinda want to tell my parents. But I'm afraid they would get mad. So I don't know what to do? Or when is the right time to tell them? Should I lie and tell them later? Or tell them now?

-in need of help Diana

IT WILL HURT? HOW?

im 17 and i had sex for the second time the other day, and i didnt feel any pleasure. The first or the second time i didnt. what do i do? im totally lost.

OKAY ME AND MY BOYFRIEND HAD SEX.AND IT WAS OUR FIRST TIME HAVING SEX TOGTEHER.WELL NEITHER OF US ARE VIRGINS BUT IN OUR RELATIOSHIP IT WAS OUT FIRST TIME.WHY IS THEIR THIS AWKWARDNESS BETWEEN US??NOW??

Maybe, maybe not. Just be sure to use protection and make sure that you really want to do it, so if there is any hurt it will only be short term and physical.

Will It Hurt The 1ST TIME OF HAVING SEX

Hi Markita,
Generally, you don't need a parent's permission, but for a number of reasons, some doctors and clincs may ask for it.
Check out http://www.chicagohelp.org/referrals.html
or the Planned Parenthood health center in Chigago: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/centerDetails.
