"Freak!" is not really what you want to hear when you're trying to blend into a crowd. But for someone interested in being unique, it can be a compliment.Starting in the early 1800s, freak shows were a popular form of entertainment that literally involved putting weirdness on display. People who had extreme medical conditions--obesity, dwarfism, hairiness--could work in freak shows while people paid money to gawk at them.
In the 1970s, the dance music hit "Le Freak" helped launch the disco craze, but also poked fun at the over-the-top devotion of nightclubbers.
Being called a "music freak" or a "computer freak" has a certain charm because the idea is that while you may be abnormally passionate about one special thing, you're probably very good at it. Like "Jesus freak," however, it also might contain a subtle putdown about being so fervent about something.
If you are not any of those kinds of freaks, maybe you are an average angsty teen like the TV kids on "Freaks and Geeks." Or maybe your freakiness just flares up once in a while without warning, like a freak snowstorm in summer.
Pple have called me a "freak" since the third grade
I just say:
Thanks for the compliment
Now I'm going to move on with the rest of my life

Dawg I always get called a freak both sexual and in my nature. People say it's a good thing.

a freak is someone who's different frm other normal ppl. but everyone's different, so even ppl who r "normal" can't possibly be the same as other "normal" ppl, which means they r actually freaks. therefore, there r no "normal" ppl & we're all freaks. but if we're all freaks, then that would mean being a freak is normal, therefore, ppl who r normal r actually the freaks. but as before, everyone's different, so that means the freaks who r normal r also freaks, & the normal ppl who r actually freaks r normal, which makes them freaks... what sense does that make??? LOL I'M A FREAK!!! XD

I guess I'm kind of a freak- I don't act or dress like other people in my school and stuff. And sometimes, yeah, I wish I was more like other people. But being different is something to be proud of, so I try to flaunt it.

I get called a freak at least three times a day. I am always changing my hair, I am 5'9 and 13, I listen to very... outlandish music, I am a complete computer and history freak, and a TOTAL opinion freak. I scare almost everyone I meet. I come off as very mysterious and as if I've got a lot of things to hgide (and I do) and it just... scares people, I guess. It always leads to people calling me a freak or a "bad girl".

My ex called me a freak because I wasn't trying to brown nose the popular crowd. I was being my own person and not trying to conform to the popular image. He called me a freak. What a loser.
Posted by: Rose | April 18, 2008 at 05:30 PM
I get called a freak, cause I am my own person. Don't need to do what everyone else wants me to do. I'm myself.
People who call others freaks are followers. People who are doing what everyone else is doing for the fear of being a "freak"
If being a freak is as awesome as how I feel, I love being a freak.

Your always a "Freak" if you are Unique. I just say then a Freak I will be.

i think its funny dressing like that!and thats true about the old people.they still think it's the 1950's i guess!

People call me a freak, because i have my own style and i'm not afraid to say what i mean, even if i insult someone.People at school and on street often say to me freak.I wear whatever i want.I don't care what other people think about me.I sometimes put on a T-shirt with Donald Duck on,a black trousers, belt with spikes,a big heart shaped sunglasses and boots and people always stare at me.It can be pretty much annoying if an old lady come to you and say 'Look at you,you look like a freak.Girls at your age should wear cute skirts and white chemises. What kind of parent do you have,to let you wear whatever you want?'.Yes,that's actually happened to me.I don't feel like a freak.I think i'm completely normal, just a bit different, then most people.
Posted by: Cassie | February 21, 2008 at 02:48 PM
Lol it really all depends you can be like a weird freak, a different freak, or a sexual freak meaning your willing to try just about anything and your all for it. There's nothing wrong with either term.
Posted by: Leslie | February 21, 2008 at 11:03 AM
no.freak means different.thats what i always thought.and if thats really what it means then.....I AM A FREAK AND I AM PROUD!BEING DIFFERENT KICKS ASS!!!
Posted by: kelly | February 07, 2008 at 06:22 PM
I thought freak meant good in bed. Like.. (8) Super freak, shes a very freaky girl.. the kind you dont take home to mothaa
Posted by: Katherine | January 19, 2008 at 05:13 PM
I think we are all freaks to be honest. If a freak is someone who is different, how can anyone be anything but a freak? No one is the same though they may try to be. I believe in being true to yourself. I find it hard sometimes because I know it will set people gossipping about me but so far it's alright.
I'm proud to love manga and anime. I'm proud to dream of my dreams. I'm proud to wear my own style. I'm proud to label myself ME.

To me, being called a freak is like being called a hero...it's showing that you are YOU and not an Avril Lavigne wannabe, or a Hannah Montana fangirl, or something else entirely. It might be hurtful to some, but to me, it just makes me be even more proud to be the only girl at school who knows who Joni Mitchell and Mott the Hoople are. *u*

I really dont like people calling others this word.
Posted by: Morgan | December 14, 2007 at 04:51 PM
At school I am labeled as a freak because I wear atleast one thing black. It kinda is stupid. Hey I can live with it. I rather be a freak then any thing else. I just hate then I'm walking down the hall way and some one yells out, "Hey look it's Faera Freakzy! Run before she rubs her freak germs off on you!" I mean serriously people, grow up.
Posted by: Faera | November 27, 2007 at 08:11 PM
freak is one of the worst insults in my opinion.
Posted by: roisin | November 18, 2007 at 01:31 PM
me and my friends call eachother freaks but we just call eachother that when we do something funny or stupid. not everybody uses these words in a bad way. sometimes they just want to joke around and you need to stop acting like every time you call someone a freak that u should take it back and never say it again.
Posted by: me | November 17, 2007 at 08:23 PM
Theirs tooo many words to label people. and often...kids don't know how to use them, or understand the meaning.
If you know who you are and what you stand for, then you shouldn't really worry about the labels out their.
People love to hear themselves talk and are ridiculous. Just remember, some even many...are horrible insecure, and have worse self-esteem than YOU!

I changed schools and at my old school my nicknames where
