What's your "day job"?
This is my day job! I do some freelance design and web work on the side, though, and I am studying part time for a degree in communications design. But the main source of my income and consumer of my time is making comics is for gURL.com, and I love every minute of it!

Tell us a little about your hobbies, inspirations and favorite artists/comic creators/writers:
The world is a curious place, and I love finding out everything about it! For that reason, I enjoy reading nonfiction books about theoretical physics and animal psychology. But I still like to read fairytales from the Brothers Grimm before bed.

I practice belly dance for fitness and ride a motorcycle (so fuel efficient!). I love crows and love to dress up as one for the conventions I attend.

Surprisingly, I don't actually read a lot of comics/manga or watch a lot of anime. Part of it is a lack of time! But my favorite comic creators right now are Alice Legrow (Bizenghast) and Junko Mizuno (Princess Mermaid). "Princess Tutu" is one of the best anime I have watched in my life.

My dream is to one day run a girls' comics publishing company. Hey, it was either that or become a cackling mad scientist bent on the destruction of mankind!

What's your work process like? Have you won any awards or published any books? Any interesting trivia?
I won the 2007 Kim Yale Award for Best New Talent from Friends of Lulu, a pro-female comics organization. I've been self-publishing since I was 19, and I was probably the first American teenage girl to self-publish her own graphic novel, 18 Revolutions.

Since then I have self-published another graphic novel, Crow Princess along with a number of mini comics like A Brief History of Grifonton and Subculture of One.

My weapons of choice when attacking the Bristol board: non-photo blue markers, Pitt pens, a scanner and Photoshop.

hey rachel. love your comics but.....you know your sparrow's song comic was....disappointing...it's like rachel is scared to even date a guy. and then she shreds sparrow to pieces. sure sparrow's not the best person but you know....she atleast tries. and sparrow really has bad self-esteem....anyone with half a brain could see that....so why couldn't rachel try and see it her way instead of trying to make sparrow the more open-legged slut that she thinks sparrow is.

Rachel, Rachel, Rachel. Near the beginning of summer (well, MY summer since I go to school yabbayabba w/e) I read the last of your comics. I then went on a trip for a month to Croatia. I came back.
