Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Cranford, NJ--a typical suburban New Jersey town 20 minutes from New York City.
What's your "day job"?
I am currently doing freelance illustration and writing, which is slang for "unemployed." Since I just moved, I'm currently in pursuit of more permanent and better-paying employment. My most recent job was writing corporate communications for a health insurance company. It was horrible.
Tell us a little about your hobbies, inspirations and favorite artists/comic creators/writers:
Besides drawing comics, I like to read a lot (mostly comics.) I watch a lot of documentary movies and I love studying all types of religion. I am not religious myself, but I find the subject fascinating. Space is also cool.
My favorite comic artists are Ivan Brunetti, Seth, Guy Delisle, James Kochalka and many others. I find that listening to the Flaming Lips is good for inspiration, but listening to the [Rolling] Stones is best for actually drawing. I get most of my inspiration from trying to observe everything from the outside looking in and watching and talking to people.
What's your work process like? Any interesting trivia?
The physical process usually involves some kind of preliminary sketch, either in a little notebook or on a scrap paper. I pencil the finished drawing on Bristol board with a red checking pencil. Then I ink it with a G-pen and India ink (A G-pen is a Japanese pen nip that is very forgiving). Then it's on to the scanner and Photoshop.
I have published about six books of collections of my comic Bellen! and have been in a lot of comic anthologies. I was awarded "Most Original" in my 6th grade superlatives.
How can someone get in touch with you or see more of your work?
Boxbrown.com has all of my Bellen! Comics. I also publish a lot of other things on boxbrown.livejournal.com.
Any last words?
Comics are the gateway to eternal happiness.

Who cares? neway, if your going to give an eighth grade boy a bj, you know he's going to tell everyone...that's what boys do. Even if you give a senior a bj, he's still going to tell. In the long run, it made a great comic that was super funny, so don't give him crap.

Kim was a fake name!
Posted by: Box | Nov 06, 2008 at 07:33 AM
Um..I suppose you could have always used a different name for "Kim". XD But it still seems a little harsh..especially if you neglected to.

..0_o Sorry but..wasn't that kind of rude? She told you not to tell anyone and then you made a comic about it. So now anyone who reads it knows a chick named Kim gave you a BJ in 8th grade.
Nevertheless, you're a talented artist.
