I've been overweight for a while now.
and i've lost some weight latley and i feel SO much better... like i actually acomplished something.
i still have my days where i eat tons, but i feel better in my skin.
Dont think you cant do it, just tell yourself you can and do it.
before i had went on so many diets that just didnt work... but now im being more realistic and more positive.
and youll see... it sheds off.
dont think you cant do it... because millions of people have gotten over their weight problems.. which means you can too.
by the way,
I LOVED THIS COMIX :D

Lily, he mentioned that he gained control of his mind so he could stop overeating and such. He changed his diet, not stop eating.

It is true but still people strive to improve. Being TOO overweight causes major health issues and it can affect someone's lifestyle, self esteem and the people who CARE tend to WORRY about your health and your well-being. It isn't wrong to IMPROVE yourself. Same goes to studying.
Some of you guys need to think more positively.
Cheers.

i like this comic. but it duzent make me feel better (i'm a fat person) coz i think itz really hard to loose weight and jus by eating less wont make u thin coz u hav to exercise too
Posted by: tiffany | Aug 26, 2008 at 03:33 PM
I really like this story and I completely disagree with the people who are upset that girls noticed him. He made it clear in the beginning that it was making an impact on his confidence and losing the weight made him feel better which made girls notice him. It is not healthy to be overweight, even if you like the way you look. It can lead to many health problems. There are many negative opinions of skinny people who hurt their bodies by not having enough fat but its the same with people who have too much. Maintaining a healthy weight leads to a better and longer life! This comic has a good message, great job!

" my health" LOL im glad you go thinner, i know how you feel too. Back in 1st and 3rd grade i had to take steriods because of a birth defect i have, and i got really big, and i decided to quit taking them, so i had to excericise and eat healthyer to lose my pounds, and now im thin as a stick! And really im really happy too, but im sorta emo x3

What a totally awesome comic! Remember folks, all you have to do is not eat and become obsessed with food, and then people will like you! If you're fat, you're totally worthless, but once you start starving yourself and get skinny, the world's great! PS being fat is just like smoking, and asthma is nothing more than excuse to avoid physical activity. It's true! A poorly written and drawn cartoon on the internet told me so!

DEAR BOX,
Watch out for "lilly" and "Giginuts_me" (and probably others) because BEWARE! They will fill your ears with nonsense. Remember, talk sense to a fool and she calls you foolish!
I loved it. If you buckle down and concentrait on eating healthier and exercizing, you can loose weight without starving yourself or eating expensive diet pills. You might not get as good of results as you got, but you gotta start somewhere.

What a cute comic! I loved the ending.
It is true that if you change your eating habits, you can lose weight. Just eat healthier foods, and smaller portions. Don't have big heaping plates of unhealthy crap. But, you should exercise if you want to lose weight faster. Simple exercises, like yoga, stretching, or jumping jacks, stuff like that.

HA! i luved this comic. the end was the best. he reminds me of my friends how he said it was 4 the girls. also i read this while eatting chips which i find ironic.
Posted by: insanityiscute | Jul 20, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Why are people so mean? I mean come on! Box wanted to make a healthy goal that could change his life socially and physically, he got great results and shared it with the world, well through this comic. The way he did it will work for some people and not for others. I don't understand why "Lilly" and others are making such a big deal about it.
Posted by: Kelly | Jul 19, 2008 at 02:43 PM
that was adorable! I laughed so hard at the "MY NAME IS BOX AND I'M A FAT PERSON!"
Unfortunately, I have a good figure but a really wide face that is shaped like a peanut, thanks to my "Fantastic" jawline(which you can only see when i turn my head up and to the side). Most days I cover my peanut-head with my hair.

I seriously love the ending!
Great little story! ;D ♥

Wow. All the drama that's come from this little comic. For what it was, I thought it was cute, kinda appropriate (although the comment about girls suddenly noticing him was kind of a catch 22) and it wasn't like he was saying "you must starve yourself" or "buy this magical pill and you'll lose pounds overnight". Nor did he state "because I got skinny, I immediately tried to force my friends to lose weight, and made fun of those who weren't skinny." Everyone has their own problems to tackle, and being "fat" does not necessarily mean that you're lazy or eat too much. Genetics may play a part in it, and some diseases can cause weight problems. I'd rather that more people take the message from the comic "be happy with yourself. Take confidence in who you are, what you do, and everything you can be."

On the other hand big women get a whole lot of luvin!
Posted by: Bri | Jul 15, 2008 at 04:42 PM
Actually, Bella, a big problem is women actually can't lose weight by exercise alone. Studies have show we have to change our diets to lose weight. Now if you watch your diet and exercise, you can lose weight faster, but you have to be very careful to get the balance right or your body kicks into starvation mode and you end up fatigued and over-eating.
It's really not *hard* to lose weight, but it takes discipline and patience. If you have friends (or family) who are big on food it can make it very difficult (kind of like how it's difficult to quit smoking if you are around other smokers). The biggest obstacle is really dealing with your mind.
Posted by: Dotcom | Jul 14, 2008 at 09:38 PM
Well, I don't think girls noticed Box just because of the weight loss. I think girls mostly noticed him because he gained confidence. I've met some fat guys (and fat girls) who have people all over them, because the sexiest thing is being able to look people in the eye and smile. It also helps to know how to dress nice and take good care of your hair, teeth, and skin. When you are hung up over things like body image, it's easy to let the small things go (like style and hygiene) but these things matter even more than a person's shape.

Wow, Mr. Box Brown.
This made me laugh a lot.
TWO PACK.
The end was excellent.
It makes me want to go back and read all of 'Bellen!' again. :)

I think this is a really good story,
i really liked it.
Posted by: Amber | Jul 14, 2008 at 05:38 PM
This comic was really cute! It is pretty hard to lose weight at first. I mean, I'm 16 and I used to weigh like, 180 but now I'm almost down to 155. *snaps for me* what really helps is to find workouts you actually LIKE to do. pssshhh you are not going to see ME running miles anytime soon. but hey that may work for other people...but anyway, i liked the art in the comic and it didn't make losing weight sound like a super serious miracle like the media and doctors do.
Posted by: Reanna | Jul 14, 2008 at 11:24 AM
-Sighs- Guys have it sooo easy, they change their eating habits and BAm they lose some weight. Plus exerciseing, you lose MORE weight.
For girls its like...You have to exercise ALOT, eat right, for the rest of your life or BAM your fat, over weight what ever again.
Posted by: Bella | Jul 13, 2008 at 08:20 PM
i like the fact that it mentioned that it wasn't easy for him to just change his diet so drastically but then he said that he felt so much better and like he could do anything. there is nothing wrong with being "fat" except for your health. it's sad though because at the end after he lost the weight he got the girl, no matter what a majority of people who say looks don't matter are lying. i think looks partially matter for everyone, i know from my own experience that looks do not matter too me except for if someone is trying to be someone they are not on the outside which shows insecurity. everyone is beautiful inside and out and should't be judged by their hair, size, clothes, weight or other physical properties. everyone is different and unique. that was a cute comic :)
Posted by: yourface | Jul 13, 2008 at 04:54 PM
People think he should be him self. And its not wrong to be fat. here is what I think . I am fat I am 120pounds and I am 13 years old. People make fun of me. It is also very unheathy to be over wieght . So I am happy for him.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Elizabeth | Jul 13, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Wow! this is a good discussion. As I said, this is a true story. I am not an expert, but this just how it happened. I think that body image and health are two different things though.
Posted by: Box Brown | Jul 13, 2008 at 10:29 AM
But to the comic: I really didn't like it. It should made him realize that it's not wrong to be "fat". He should of accepted himself. But, as it said at the first page. True story. Whatever.
Posted by: amber | Jul 13, 2008 at 08:15 AM
"Giginuts_me": I would like to ask, what makes you think; if someone is overweight, that they're UNSUCCESSFUL? That is horrible misconception. Weight has nothing to do with your success. I like your little touch, with "no offense". Of course you're going to offend many people, you called them fatasses. P.S. Successful people don't type in caps, and spell every word wrong!
I am overweight, and from what you wrote, I am probably a lot more smarter than you. Hence, MORE SUCCESSFUL. Grow up!
Posted by: amber | Jul 13, 2008 at 08:11 AM
I like this comic a lot, in fact it reminds me of myself when I was younger (in fact I had the nickname of "chubs" for a while). By changing my diet, cutting out the unnecessary snacks, and with a little bit of exercise I dropped down to a healthier size.
At a young age little things such as being overweight can affect so many more aspects of your life, which is something people who never had this problem might not understand. Setting a goal and reaching it does wonders for things like self esteem, confidence and overall attitude. Being happy with your image whether its from losing weight or realizing all of the already good things about yourself can make you feel really good.
Posted by: Kyle | Jul 13, 2008 at 03:16 AM
I'm liking the way this comic has sparked off something of a heated debate on body image. That's totally the kind of thing gurl comix should do: make us ask questions about life and the world.
Even if one or two of the comments here are almost laughably ignorant -not to name any names, but obesity doesn't equal 'fatty and loser'! *rolls eyes*

what a cute story.
Boys do lose weight differently then girls because we have a layer of fat after our skin to protect ourselves after and durning the time we're pregnant. So of course we women will lose weight slower then boys, but that's not a problem we live longer then they do hee-heh.
Posted by: PixieBee | Jul 12, 2008 at 04:16 AM
ARGH.
Totally not fair.
Guys can just ease up on the nacho chips, or fried chicken and they drop pounds like mad.
And they can get sculpted bodies just by being active doing everyday stuff like sports, jogging, etc.
Don't get me wrong, girls can shape up like that too, but the results just aren't as good and it takes waaaaaaaay longer.
Stupid boys and their naturally athletic bodies. >:\

The way Box looks and mentions his weight problem reminds me of my boyfriend. ^^
He's losing it pretty well though and wants to keep losing. I'm making sure he doesn't overdo it though. =P
Posted by: Amy | Jul 12, 2008 at 12:49 AM
You are a terrible person, "giginuts_me". There are a lot of other things in life that determine one's "success" other than being thin. Half a brain and the ability to spell correctly for instance (just throwing that out there). That comment just shows the media's tight grip on your young mind, your prejudice and your judgmental regard towards fat people.
Posted by: Allison | Jul 11, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Since when has obsesity equated with failure? Not so!
Everybody should accept themselves for who they are. If you want to make a change, then go for it if you really want to! That's your decision, not mine, and not someone else's. If you are a relatively "thin" person, and you look down upon those who are not like you, then you should SHUT YOUR GOB, OK?
Not everyone can be "perfect", you know why? It's all about the DNA, baby!
So to everyone who looks down upon those who are different in anyway, change yourself before someone changes it for you...

Well at least this one comic would give those FATASSES alil HOPE so they start moving their FAT ASSES and do sthing about it INSTEAD of complain and moan BUT keeping eating like pigs, and dont tell me this aint true!! cuz i see it all the tim e lol (no offense) *^_^* So MOVE ur fat ass and start for the BIG CHANGE OF UR LIL PATHETIC LIFE!!.....You choses.....THIN AND SUCCESFUL....OR fatty and loser and LOne FOREVER :o *^_^*
Posted by: Giginuts_me | Jul 11, 2008 at 10:26 PM
NO NO NO NO NO.
Yes, some people can lose heaps of weight by small changes to their diet and exercising a decent amount. But that's only if their diets were really bad in the FIRST PLACE.
I dislike this comic because it implies that fat is undesireable and unhealthy, and easy to change. If your body wants to be fat, it will be fat no matter how healthy you are. I have a great fitness level and eat well and I'm overweight, and that's okay. It's not a problem, or means there's something wrong with me.

"my health?"
Posted by: lisa | Jul 11, 2008 at 08:13 PM
knowing first-hand how much pressure girls have to be thin, it's comforting to hear that the other sex is just as insecure about weight. maybe it's not such a double-standard after all.

that's a good comic that everyone who is on diet needs to read. i think there are still many of us who think eating skimpy meals is the key to lose weight, yet we avoid exercising. box proved that he can lose weight healthly to gurl websurfer...thats really cool! i believe many of the readers are now inspired by box.
beside, the illustration is really really cute! o_o
Posted by: felice_the_cat | Jul 11, 2008 at 12:50 PM
I strongly disagree with lilly.
This comic is very appropriate, because it's all about someone who has an real issue (being over-weight is a health problem!) and takes control of their life to make better choices.
The artist isn't saying that by controlling his weight he's controlling his life! But he is taking control of one part of it that will inevitably make a large impact on his quality of life.
How this unhealthy? I think the message the artist is sending is very relevant and helpful to teens.
Lighten up! :D
