its hard to watch your characters smoke and drink, they're so cute and nub-like
Posted by: adrienne | May 08, 2009 at 01:10 AM
I appreciate this comic, even as someone who does, indeed, drink, smoke, and do drugs.
I say this because it doesn't have the high and mighty attitude a LOT of straight edge kids have towards those otherwise inclined, just as a lot of kids who are into all that can be high and mighty to the straight edge kids.
Just because I drink and smoke and do drugs doesn't mean I'm stupid, and it doesn't mean I'm boring and don't know how to have fun without all of that. I can, easily, and I do, often. But I enjoy it otherwise too; I can go either way. I know it's bad for me, and I accept that.
In general, well-done comic. You did a good job of not being a jerk like most of the straight edge kids I know-- and the straight edge punks can be the biggest douchebags, haha.

my anti-drug is staring at someone blankly for exactly 20 seconds and then begin screaming hysterically. :D

Im so glad you made this comic thanx Kiki. I never do any drugs or drink alcohol and i always get the same reaction "Why!!". One time i walked to the drinking table with my cup of water and my mate just laughed (probs drunk). Im a straight edge too YAY.

I totally and completely LOVE pop rocks with coke :) Fabulous :) I'm a total straight edge kid,and I love it! So many kids get screwed up because of drugs, and I don't want myself or the people I care about to ever end up like that. I've been this way all my life, and I totally get the whole high on life thing. My friends and I are all in cross country,so we get the natural "runner's high",a lot safer and better for you :) Also,I can't smell cigarettes,or sharpies for that matter. I have to hold my breath,it's that bad.
Posted by: Kelsey | Dec 21, 2008 at 01:04 AM
ah man. EVERYONE asks me what i'm on. every day. it's insanely hilarious. i think we've got a bit of a kindred spirit ordeal goin on. i totally understand. and i'm glad you do too!

I like this, I'm 20 and so straight, where I live is very rule, and the only thing there is to do is ether get in trouble with the cops, or nothing, but I don't smoke or drink, I know people who do, but I don't due to the fact that my folks work in the medical field so I get my ear talked off
Posted by: Michelle | Nov 30, 2008 at 06:07 PM
I like this comic. It hits it straight. Drugs are bad for you and LAME. Why get fried? Have fun sober. It's better, it's like KiKi said... you remember everything. Plus, you won't regret things after.
I have never tried poprocks and soda together, but i think i will try it.

i think the chick
who made this comic
read my mind
and made a comic about it.
this is pretty much exactly
how i feel
about everything
having to do with drugs
and whatnot.

This is by far my favorite comic on gURL. :] ~<3

OMG THANK YOU!!!
I love this comic!!! And it's so ture! My friends and I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I'm the only person who's even tried them. When I tell people I'm going to a party, or I'm really tired from a party last night, they always assume there is sudstances involved XP My friends' and my motto is:
"Just cuz we're sober, doesn't mean we need to act like it!"
Posted by: Ali | Sep 28, 2008 at 10:32 PM
i smoke, drink and do drugs.
thats just the way i live. people can lecture me about it as long as they like but they increase my level of enjoyment of everything immensely. i like to live while im young
pop rocks and soda are just not enough for me.

YES...FINALLY someone who shares my pain...well really it's not pain...it's pride! I have so many friends that drink, smoke, everything else...and sometimes I think I'm nearly the only one. I know I'm not and I too have my reasons for not doing drugs, drinking, or smoking...I'm just so happy when I can find someone a bit older than me who is the same as me ^_^. my friends wonder why, too...it's funny...but I'm not going to let them pull me down into what I believe to be a mistake. very well done comic by the way, Kiki!

And usually, it's the perfect people in elementary school that expirement and get hooked. But you can also tell if somebody's gonna be like that. I guess it's just the way you were raised. I don't smoke, drink, or get high. I just act the way Kiki does. All the time.

Cute! I love it. It has a good message to gURLs everywhere and I must admit... I'd pick pop rocks and soda over alcohol and drugs any day!
Posted by: KarmaKutie | Jul 21, 2008 at 01:45 PM
okay, i first read this comic right after my first party were there was shots...as it turns out, your friends do sometimes try to get you to drink, i had a few, and then watched my friends vomit and wake up without remebering ANYTHING. I decided since i hate the taste of alcohol anyways, i'm not a light weight, and theres an ex-alcoholic in the family, i now tell everyone that im straight edge :) AND ITS PROBABLY THE BEST DECISION I'LL EVER MAKE!!(ps, i didnt even know there was such thing til i read this!!)

I really am happy to see this comic it's shows that there are some friends who just grow apart simply because they choose to do something you didn't want to. But also it says that if your friends want you to drink or do other things you don't want to do there NOT your friends. I'll be a Junior when school starts and already I've been to some party's that have beer the kids there though don't say if you don't drink you cant come in fact I bring a big two litter of pepsi or coke that I drink out of straight from the bottle (also it's a good way to not have to worry about someone putting a drug in your drink) which by the way wouldn't happen to me because I know when a party's going to be too rowdy. Mostly the parties that have beer are really just a bunch of my friends who meet at a house were there's either music or my personal fave playing the greatest video game ever (mostly because I can play it) Mario go Carts. Anyway there's usually a small cooler full of beer. The thing that also makes me feel good about not drinking is never having to worry about getting stuck as the designated driver. Besides I would much rather know my friends get home safe then ending up spending the rest of the night wondering if there okay. I guess it all comes down to I have friends who drink and I don't and we all still have fun together

ok iu'd definatly have to say i loved thsi comment. I LOVE POP ROCKS AND SODA =] i think its better than a nasty beer any day.

i looved your comic.. and even tho im not exactly straight edge (i drink... but i havent been drunk in 2 years.. after my first time.. i felt soooo sick)... i dont smoke.. and dont do drugs...
and my friends are convinced i do. and although they are surprised because we live in a country were you can get smokes and drugs and alcohol in shops since like ur 12... they sometimes dont believe me when i say i dont smoke... or dont do weed their fine with it.. and by the end of the night.. im the one who has the most fun... i dont end up puking in some random persons house... or corner (:
Posted by: kim | Jun 12, 2008 at 11:27 PM
I think this is possibly the awesomest thing I have ever seen, and I can relate to the way people react when they find out I'm edge.. I appearently don't strike people as straight laced
Your awesome!
Posted by: EdgeNewJerzey | Jun 11, 2008 at 03:29 PM
I think that this is a great comic. It's colourful and funny, but it has a good message. No one should be pressured to do drugs or drink or smoke, everyone can do whatever they want, with who ever they want.
Posted by: @ | Jun 11, 2008 at 12:11 PM
I do drugs and I smoke
I love it.
But something about the straight edge crowd...
I just really like it. I love weed and it's the one thing I couldn't give up, but I also love to hang out with my friends who don't smoke and have fun while sober.
I think fighting over it is ridiculous.
We should be able to get the fuck along.

I think now, being SxE can be quite stupid if you don´t know what is good for your health, drugs are bad for your health, but transgenic, pollution, quimic products, money and wars also are bad for your health...
Drugs can help you to be happy if you know the best form to use it,been careful.
I thought that SxE are more that anti-drug, SxE also they can´t eat animals and play some games and have sex without love...I think all of that is some relligious...If you have pleasure with careful you will be happy.

I never saw the glamor in getting high or drunk.
FRUIT SNACKS ARE JUST AS GOOD AS POP ROCKS AND COKE! 8D
Posted by: Connor (HECK YES I am a girl!) | May 31, 2008 at 07:24 PM
I'm totally straight edge
and me and my other straight edge friends have more fun
than those friends that do drugs and drink
one of my friends came to school drunk today
and all I could think was
"you smell like alcohol, you're stumbling around, you can't see anything clearly, and you're slurring your words... and you think you're cool. wow."

Hey Kiki!
I absolutely LOVE your comics!
They totally hit home with me.
I'm straightedge, and so is my boyfriend and all of my close friends.
I have friends who drink and smoke,
and I don't particularly appreciate it when they call me at 2 a.m. to go"....heellllooooooooo????? i. am. wasteeeeeed. heh heh."
but they're my friends all the same.
Thanks for the great comics and keep 'em coming!
Posted by: Kelsey | Apr 15, 2008 at 10:22 AM
I liked how you stood by being straightedge, but you didn't rag on your friends who weren't. You don't see that a lot.
I hate those people who try to act like all people who do drugs/beer/ciggerettes are horrible people. Sure, it's unhealthy and all, but that doesn't make them BAD people. I also can't stand some people who drink/smoke/do drugs and rag on people who don't.
I'm straightedge myself, but I have a few friends that smoke and/or drink and it doesn't bother me.
Kikki, you rock!!!!!!!!
Posted by: amanda | Apr 13, 2008 at 08:37 PM
I like this comic, because she doesn't hate on stoners or people that drink, but stays firm about her beliefs :)
A lot of times people that haven't experimented try to act morally superior, and that bothers me-- even though I've never tried anything myself. Different people have different priorities in life. Yeah, pot's not HEALTHY, but it can be intellectually stimulating or eye-opening. I'm not going to say it's all bad without having tried it.
As for the whole music scene thing... Given that the KEY ELEMENT of the straightedge movement, the thing that distinguishes it from the rest of hardcore, is the absence of drugs, drinking, and gratuitous sex, it's fair to, in this drug-filled, sex-obsessed culture, use "straightedge" as a term of distinction from the rest of society.
Posted by: Hippiesque | Apr 13, 2008 at 01:46 PM
It's really cool that people can make their own decisions, instead of letting what's popular influence them, but I use drugs, and I don't feel like I need to make excuses for myself, either. I guess the people who do are the people who weren't making their own decisions in the first place.
Posted by: Rachael | Apr 10, 2008 at 11:55 AM
I loved this comic . like the art ;)... and completely relate to it. im a straightedge myself, also hard to believe cause of my usual badass-hyper-sadistic-japan-loving-twisted-self...... great job XD
Posted by: Anel | Apr 04, 2008 at 06:48 PM
I support the SxE. or (straightedge kids) but personally i love my Herb, i cant give it up....I love alochol...but I'm trying to stay sober for my boy...
Posted by: Karma | Apr 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM
I love that your friends accepted that. Some people just dont get it.
Posted by: whoosh | Mar 30, 2008 at 10:17 PM
OK, I am also strait edge. This is a new word for me! But I am surprsided by the recpetion of the comic. Yes, I don't like labels like emo, goth, preppy, etc, when they are meant in derogatory terms that people use to bully you. But this is a "label" to be worn proudly. And those who think those who dont drink or smoke or do drugs think they are better then those who do, it got me thinking. And I' sure that they think they have talents and stuff, but in morals and all that, yes, people generally do believe they are "better" in that way. But not in a disrespectful to the person kind of way.. rahter then...why are they doing tis to themselves? and "they should know better" But I guess it depends on who you ask, your ]drinking buddies or your no drug-gang. I think its those messages they slam on you as a kid. I really liked the comic, "high on life", yes, that reminds me of me and my friends!
Posted by: GG | Mar 30, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Hmm, is it necessary to slap on yourself a label. That's what bugs me.. of course, I belive in freedom of everything, but I have my opinions, and I think it's stupid. I'm straight edge, ooh Im goth. Ahh, wankers.
Great comics by the way, I really enjoyed the one about the feud between the bands.. [british bands are hot!].
Posted by: Naomi | Mar 29, 2008 at 11:59 AM
i LOVED this comic!!
i'm a straightedge too and everyone asks me if i'm always on somethig beacause i'm always naturally hyper!!!

Great art, great story, great message! <333
Posted by: qtsushigirl/Beka | Mar 26, 2008 at 12:10 PM
I'm not straightedge, but I quit smoking last Sept. Also I started drinking less and less...
I used to go to a lot of raves, but I stopped coz I realized than we've actually started to enjoy the drugs more than the music.
In teenager years smoking, drinking and taking drugs may seem like fun ( I'm from Bulgaria and here we don't have so strict regulation against under age drinking) But as you grow older you'll realise that YOU DON'T NEED THESE THINGS TO HAVE FUN!! :)
Besides, most of drinkers are
1.shy
2.unoriginal enough to entertain the crowd
xD

psh ya i agree with feelme
