i never understood why people idolize the sports players and cheerleaders and quote, unquote "preps" (i have nothing against preps, but it's just not my thing), when the "coolest" people you'll ever meet are usually the ones people call dorks and nerds (i.e. kids you can find in the manga section of barnes and noble or shopping in thrift stores, etc.). I just figured this out, like a month ago when i started hanging out with Theatre Kids (an uber-accepting clique-like non-clique of actors and techies). They're like the oddest, goofiest people ever. I love them and I love being one of them! Allot of them are into indie stuff and they showed me that being origional is the way to go. (vs. trying to fit in, which I tried to do before I was enlightened!)

We all try to cool and uncool define by different means when really considering the facts we are all pretty much lame and pathetic for going through such means. being 'cool' is just the level of self confidence someone possesses. If you do something 'un-cool' and don't give much thought to what others think it comes off as cool. And if people still see you as uncool then fuck it do what makes you happy.

Basically the problem here is adjectives like cool are being used to describe 'good' or 'acceptable'. Transcending cool is trancending what is acceptable by the masses, to only caring about what you and those you accept accept. It is a more specific scrutiny than appealing to the majority.

Many things cool to most are inherantly cool. For example, being good at sports. There's only good and nothing bad about that. The only bad that results is if it turns you into something bad or takes the place of important things (like more important things).

Being uncool isn't cool, it's just not cool, but that doesn't matter, it's not a plus or a minus. Being independant enough to lead your own path independant of trends is cool, as it is unique in that humans are inherantly more herdlike and fall in the habit of mimicry. That is actually sometimes beneficial, but being conscious and selective in how you do it is better. Being uncool as a reverse trend is dumb though, and missing the point entirely. At least majority trends have some sort of natural selection process to them, can we find these in reverse-majority trends? Sometimes, but not always.
