This is so true i don't usually have alot of mixed or (oreo) friends but i don't think it should matter to ppl, like really what would they mean on how they act white and black makes no sence everyone acts out there personality not there skin color//

hey krista! below>>>>
I'm the same exact way, as i've gotten older i've learned to either ignore or correct people's remarks. what color is race. they need to see the errors in their ways and learn to accept everyone.

Actually Im black,..But some people say "I act white"..I am very into Pop and rock! (i also luv R&B) I think half of the rap music today is total crap!I luv singers like "miley cyrus! jesse mccartney! and jonas brothers!but my friends are like "..Eww...Their white.." Actually My current Boyfriend is white...And he can care less about the subject!!! Idk about race!!! im part indian too!!!!

im black and my parents are white because im adopted...ive been called an oreo since about middle school but now i just embrace being called that. people see me and automatically think that im good at sports, like hiphop/rap, and am good at dancing when none of these things are remotly true. im into alternative rock, anime, and art. none of these things can be completly categorized into 'black' or 'white'. my friends just accept me as i am without assuming anything about me. this comic is very accurate and i think it brings a good message. people need to stop asking ignorant racist questions even if they are just curious. they can come off nosey or rude. when people overly discuss my race i get annoyed because i get enough dumb questions about being adopted. i love my parents and they love me but we are not colorblind. race isn't something unmentionable with my family or friends but it is personal.

well im mixed with mexican and black. and when government tests like PLAN and the PSAT ask for my ethicity they never have "mixed" on there. and it really makes me mad because not everone is one ethnicity. and from this comic, when someone said shes an "oreo", she's not. AN OREO IS WHEN YOU ARE BLACK ON THE OUTSIDE BUT ACT WHITE IN THE INSIDE!!!! so yea idk where that person got that from. She's just an ordinary mulatto, or herself.

omg...this made me think really hard.
i'm black and my boyfriend is white. We've known each other for 3 years and been together for 4 months now. He says that the way we are going we'll probably end up married granted he's only a sophomore and i'm a freshman. anyway, this just opened my eyes to something that we lightly brushed upon last week. We pondered how our kids would be accepted into society, this obviously showed me something. I don't really get it, how you are black or white. We are all people. Back in the day, maybe 100 or so years ago you were Irish, English, or Italian. You weren't black or white, you were your predominate nationality. If that was the case today my boyfriend is technically Welsh and I'm Spanish/Haitian.
I guess I'm blinded as to color because dating my boyfriend and us being very open with our feelings just made me realize that color plays a big part in our world. Today, the perfect example was when he was discussing politics with me. He raised our hands and said "A unity like ours made the new President." Granted he didn't want Obama to win, but it wasn't the race factor like it was for most people that were upset today, it was plain political stand point. I think this is only the 3rd time in our knowing of each other that race has come up, and each of those 3 times have come during our relationship. The 1st time was when his friend told him he shouldn't date me because I'm black and he said he didn't give a living f**k what he thought but that he should be happy because he was happy. The 2nd time was when we were talking about me being a bad influence and he said that i was a very smart, well educated, cute black girl. It was his way of putting me on a pedestal.
This thing was just culture shock. I was taught that people are people we aren't colors...anyway i learned that white is the presence of all colors...idk about you but hmph...
anyway, my nickname is oreo...i thought it meant black on the outside but white on the inside or you are black but act white. whatever i dont really care...
i think interracial is the most beautiful thing ever.
ps. i love him and i'm a nice blend of everything...Native American, Spanish, Scottish, Haitian, African, Irish, Italian.....no such thing as pure black or pure white
Posted by: ashanti | Nov 05, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Yeah I'm a Hybrid and Proud 2 be I'm italian, german, african american, and indian thats what my momz and dad are! People ask me soooo many times well why can't you speak italian well my parents or grandparents never taught me and plus we stopped speaking it to undertsand each other everyone in my family are mostly hybrids so now at skool people just kall me Mixed Mami n datz my nickname ~MIXED MAMI~
Posted by: Destany | Nov 05, 2008 at 06:30 PM
i live in s.a where we have alot of mixed race ppl,we call them coloureds and its nt an offensive word..ppl dont ask such things here,we love coloureds, everyone wants to be coloured here cause you get the best treatment of all races!been mixed here means you the luckiest person around.we have alot of coloured people in south africa
Posted by: given | Sep 15, 2008 at 06:03 PM
Hay. I'm black and probly mixed with a whoole buncha shiz idEVENknow, but anyways the city I live in is mostly black people. Everyday I always get "Oh, she's tryna act white" or "She thinks she's white"...stfu, Just because I like pop, rock, and screamo music more than i like rap, r&b, or hip hop doesn't mean that Im actin white. its not my fault that more white people sing the kinda music I like. I hate it so much....but I really look up to Fefe Dobson. Even though she's not completely black, I still look up to her. and plus, we gots the same birfday :D
i love this comic btw, cause I get the "oreo" comment too.
Posted by: Alexzandria | Jul 20, 2008 at 01:10 AM
People say I act like an oreo, and others think I'm ghetto. If people are confused about who I am, I don't really care. I know that I know who I am, so forget them. Race doesn't create you, your personality does. I've heard the saying "what's love got to do with it?", and if that's true, then what the hell does race have to do with it either?
Posted by: Crystal G. | Jun 26, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Im not biracial...but i have nieces and nephews that are and my friends always ask silly questions like that. Like wat is she, is he mixed with something? Clearly they are but what does it matter? Who cares what race they are or what they are mixed with? Theyre just like us ....we just look different so the world wouldnt be one boring color. LOL
Posted by: Janara | Jun 23, 2008 at 12:53 AM
thats so damn true.
i have ppl asking me constantly if im chinese. when rly, im not. my mummy's asian: shes from the philippines and when youre from the philippines, youre normally spanish, so im that too.
on my dads side, im english, canadian and german. when ppl ask me where im from i just say the philippines. its soo much easier.
but i look like a white girl. unless its the summer. then im like super super tan. its funny if you think about it

I am a huge mutt and very proud of it! =) I am Dominican, Spanish, Lebanese, French, German, and Russian.
However, people always tend to see the Lebanese in me as I get asked quite frequently if I am Middle Eastern or from India because of the combination of my dark hair, hazel almond-shaped eyes, and skin color.

I'm a huge mut and damn proud of it....
I'm quite possibly the whitest girl you will ever meet, I look like Casper the Friendly ghost in July, I also tend to glow at night (no joke) When I was a kid I had near platinum blond hair naturally, (now its a slightly darker shade of blond and I have visible eyebrows now but just barely)
My hair is also extremely curly, I mean really curly.
so you see I am really really really white but here is the digging point,
My father comes from a line of Germans, English, Russians, and Irish he was born in Mississippi
My mothers lineage is much the same until my great grandfather comes into the picture, he passed as a white man, he had a light enough skin tone that he could pass, he married a woman from Canada who had roots in Poland.
their children would go to marry people with roots in Italy, england, Scotland, Choctaw which is a native american tribe
so I'm a mutt and I have people all the time asking me what I am, someone asked if I was Italian because I tend to use my hands to speak.
I love my heritage its so interesting at times
Posted by: Nannie | Jun 22, 2008 at 05:02 PM
well im black with some indian but i still look black lol when i was younger i was a little lighter and had frekles and people would ask like what am i what wrong with me blah blah blah and yeah my skin became more toned so they faded
but people noticed i liked rock music and other whohah and they started calling me an oreo and it was fine when my frineds called me it and when some other kids of my own color callled me that and even some white students but then later on it became an insult so yep cool comic tho
Posted by: chloe | Jun 22, 2008 at 10:49 AM
i know exactly what you're talking about.
i'm half samoan and half white, but everyone thinks i'm mexican. but everyone says i act white... i don't even know what that means... how can anyone act white, or black or mexican??
i just don't get why race is such a big deal for some people.
Posted by: sarah | Jun 21, 2008 at 07:30 PM
im biracial and i know exactly how it is. my parents are both half black and half white. i have people constantly ask me about it-sometimes it's really annoying but at the same im ok with it because it makes me different from others and that they find me interesting. when people ask me which side i choose i saw neither. the way i see it is i am who i am, no matter what race i am.
Posted by: brandi | Jun 20, 2008 at 11:51 PM
I just wanted to know if anyone who is biracial wish there parents hadn't had kids? or does it not bother them?
I'm white am marrying a black man and considering kids, but don't want to do it if its going to hurt them.

i luv this comic it sooo true!
my dads black n my mom is white.
n ppl always ask me wat i am.
Posted by: spree | May 17, 2008 at 01:16 AM
i'm just really proud of you and how you handle the questions you ask yourself and others ask you. not to mention how your skin color does not make your identity
Posted by: rosewatermemdhi | May 10, 2008 at 10:33 PM
My dad's Latino and my mom is white, but I look much more white except for body shape... Everyone assumes I'm white.
Posted by: Hippiesque | Apr 22, 2008 at 02:07 PM
i'm biracial too. my moms caucasion and my dads black. i somewhat deal with the same situation everyday, only people dont ask me they tell me what my race is and it aggrivates me. i used to get asked what i was, and even my friends called me an oreo, panda, all that crud it sucked :(
Posted by: miimii | Apr 19, 2008 at 01:15 PM
im an arab and american im tan and a persons like what r u i told her the country of my my dad north africa and shes like o thats y u look hispanic can u get any dumber
Posted by: jazz | Apr 19, 2008 at 10:58 AM
I'm Hispanic with very pale skin, freckles, and almond eyes. (My parents also never taught me Spanish) Everyone thinks I'm either white or Asian. Race isn't a big deal to me but it is to other people with their cliques. I don't really fit in any where. When people tell me "No, you're not really Hispanic" it pisses me off. I am what I am, it's not like you can call me a poser.
I don't think I should have to "act Hispanic" to prove that I am. I am very proud of my ethnicity and culture.

This makes me feel a whole lot better. LOve this story!

i liked this one. i'm mixed as well. my mom is white and my dad is black and indian. people always ask me what i am. i hate when they do that.
Posted by: joscelyn | Jan 21, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Just shows how racist people can be. I don'r give a shit about race.
Posted by: Kassandrai Thorman | Jan 21, 2008 at 01:11 PM
An oreo does not mean a mixed person. It is a Black person who acts White. "black on the outside and white on the inside."
Posted by: Sanoma | Dec 09, 2007 at 02:30 AM
I love it! My nicknames are pretty much based on my race. Oreo, Moo Latte Baby, Whack, etc. So, thanks. =]
Posted by: Liz | Nov 25, 2007 at 08:17 PM
