i agree with remi.
Anon if you redyed your hair then cool people wouldnt be talking about you and you'd have no reason to be complaining to Kiki about it.
Fab comic Kiki :)

Er, anon girl who thinks that the panal about the chick with the faded hair was "bitchy' should just stfu. She's trying to make a point. If you want your hair to look best, keep it up to par. And if you don't want to get talked about, re-dye it, sheesh. Otherwise, don't complain.
I understand what you're talking about and where you're coming from, but Kiki's a really good artist and I'm sure she meant no offense, she was just being realistic. She shouldn't be forced to fluff it down for you and be PC just so your feelings aren't hurt.

I normally like your comics but the scene with the green hair girl seemed pretty bitchy. I've been the receiving end of cool kids laughing at my hair because it wasn't perfect. Who says you have to redye - why can't you just let it fade and change colour if you want? I did.
Posted by: anon | Sep 17, 2008 at 03:48 PM
I've bleached my hair 3 times and had it many different colours. Totally fun, always looks awesome but 3 times is too many and now even my new roots are weaker. Just bleaching once damages your hair permanently and its important to give your hair a break as much as you can if you wanna keep it for the next ten years.
my hair is literally half the thickness it was. I'm lucky as it was previously very thick so its ok, my older sister had fine hair to start with (and between you and me, shes practically got bald patches now) - and shes bleached it only a couple of times.
Its important to remember all dying, bleaching, straightening, curling (with heat or chemicals) and such will damage your hair. I'd never say it isn't worth while, but if you have very dark hair, avoid bleach - at least all over. And if you have fine, thin hair, LEAVE IT ALONE!
Also, if you go to a college with a hair and beauty deparment, befriend a H&B student and they'll do your hair for free! Make up and manicures are on there curriculum too - you're helping them to learn...

LUV THE DRAWINGS! i know this sounds geeky but was that a little japanese? if not it looks like it. also does it look good on curly hair?

im taking this advice, since i just got my hair cut yesterday :DD
i use semi-permanent dye which means it only staqys on for like a week and fades with every hair washing but it doesnt fade to an EW color, it fades to blonde.
im gonne do it gren :D
Posted by: Stephanie | Aug 17, 2008 at 02:28 PM

Ah, I love this comic! =] I have pink in my hair too! But, how do you use wax? I have curly hair, so I was wondering like...can you use it on curly hair? I use mousse, but sometimes it gets too stiff...any advice?
Posted by: Rae | Jul 11, 2008 at 05:11 PM
I like this comic. It's got Kiki's colourful style, and it gives good, straight-forward tips on hair. Also, to all the people that just keep saying this over and over again, I don't think Kiki is trying to make us jump on some non-conformist bandwagon. That's Kiki's thing and that's just fine.

When I bleached my hair it took over an hour. XD
but yeah. Its good to get the info! thankyou!
Posted by: Gazzy | Jun 06, 2008 at 10:02 PM
bleach kind of does that to anyones hair...well, at least it did to mine, and i had the standard issue straight black asian hair.
but i didn't know there were dyes with bleach built in! arhh
that would have made my life so much easier. -_-

this comic was cool and original..my mum is a hairdresser and she always makes my haircuts but i am not allowed to dye my hair beause it causes damage to your hair and its not good for eyes :(..and Michelle it is not true that bleach kills black people's hair and drys it out..i've just asked my mother xD

To all the people wonder why you have to dye your hair and what's the reason.
Well, I dye my hair, I've had it pretty much every color, (but screw that scene hair cuts and the way they dye it).
I know some kids dye their hair only to be cool, or look different, but I dyed mine because I liked it. ME, I absolutely HATE my natural color, so my hair is either black, purple or blue. They make me have some self confidence. Why do people wear make-up? To feel better about themselves, same reason to dye hair. (for some people)

Honestly you guys take this comic way too seriously. It's just a cute tutorial on how to dye your hair funky colors. If you don't think it's "Original enough" Then style your hair another way! Yes I know my hair is already unique and beautiful naturally but hey a little experimentation never hurt anyone! I'm actually getting my hair dyed today and no not for the "Name of fashion" or to "noncomform" I just want a change! Lighten up people!
Posted by: Tiffany | Feb 19, 2008 at 01:56 PM
I don't really get the whole trend of subcultures and subculture styles.
These groups and their fashion trends were created as a backlash to mainstream fashion so nonconformists could 'express' themselves in a different style.. Problem is scene and emo are pretty much mainstream among teens now and either way your still conforming to a trend.
My point here is that you don't need kill your hair in the name of fashion or to be different in any way BECAUSE YOU ALREADY ARE DIFFERENT!

i did something simaler my hair is brown and in an a-line bob the ends are black
Posted by: frida | Jan 15, 2008 at 12:12 AM
Wow....I wish that this was on here last summer when I decided to dye my hair purple! I hadn't bleached my brown hair first, so it ended up just looking like a darker brown...I'll have to remember this!!
PS...To emma d, Sally's Beauty Supply has a pretty good selection of inexpensive, neon-colored hair dye, depending on the store.
Posted by: Corky | Jan 08, 2008 at 08:15 PM
i was wondering where to buy hot pink or other neon hair dyes? hair salons only? :(
Posted by: emma d | Dec 23, 2007 at 12:00 AM
yuck. scene hair is totally ugly, i tried that for a while and now im finally seeing how ugly it really was. Ugly mullet hair with weird colors is NOT my idea of beauty. grow your hair out, you a-sexual dbaggg
Posted by: Mary | Dec 13, 2007 at 04:51 PM
Yowsa wowsa, my hair's dyed the same way, my natural brown with bright pink in the front. <3
['cept my hair's long and layerd]
Maybe I should have read this before going at it. Heh heh.
I just decided to dye my hair, on a complete wim. Walked in to the beauty suply shop near the Home Depo where I live and told the lady at the counter I wanted pink hair. She hooked me up. <3
Posted by: Grace Taverna | Dec 05, 2007 at 09:40 PM
Mixed feelings about dyes and styling. On one hand, yay for individuality and expressionism and stuff. On the other, it all seems like it would weaken your hair or be troublesome and timeconsuming.
Then again, growing it long in the first place is like that, and I'm not about to shave bald, so I should shut up.

I SO love to try this! XD Ooo~ Dye my hair pink XDD

What kind of spray wax do you use? I tuck the left side of my hair and pin some of it down and spike/mess up the other side...(if you see my deviantid...it's my old hair). Thanks for the comic!
Posted by: alyssa | Nov 19, 2007 at 03:03 AM
actually i have to agree wid yanna tt the style of this comic isn't original. it's unique, has it's own taste but u can still see the base.
but i really like the steps and everything. really helpful.
Posted by: lizza | Nov 18, 2007 at 10:10 AM
Why is this comic book not original? I thought it was very original because I have never seen anything like this.
It's very bright and colorful and the characters look awesome.
Posted by: callie daniels | Nov 15, 2007 at 10:53 PM
I'm just incredibly disappointed by it for some reason. It shows a lot of effort and it's well planned out, but it does have a generic style that I swear I've seen at least 100 different times by just looking at the front page of deviantart.com. It's okay if you're just starting out, but I'd hate more of this stuff to be main stream. Be an individual, isn't that part of what you were trying to communicate through this comic?
I also suppose I don't have a lot of good things to say about the overall message. Tips on dying your hair, that's fine, but whatever happened to natural beauty? Why do you have to dye your hair to stand out, to be an individual, or to be a rocked out chick? I wasn't allowed to dye my hair, and given the chance, I don't think I would. When my hair starts graying, I'll probably consider dying it something subtle like a black with purple sheen. I think the only bleaching I'll do will be due to the sun, thank you.

another comic we dont need this was dumb
Posted by: monk | Nov 11, 2007 at 10:31 AM
Hi guys!
To Michelle -- I think whether you are black or not, if your hair is a very dark shade you are sucking a LOT of pigment out by bleaching, so I would be careful. It's definitely possible to get bright colors in black hair, though. Try calling a hair salon and asking them before you try bleaching your hair yourself.
To Sydney - Yep, I'm majoring in cartooning at School of Visual Arts. :)
And thanks to everyone else!

Loved the comic and the art! you're majoring in cartooning, right?
Posted by: Sydney | Nov 10, 2007 at 11:14 AM
I loved this comic so much. I'm always getting my hair cut in crazy ways (right now it kindof looks like that the character in the comic has, only no pink [which I now want with a startling passion] and more asymmetrical).
This just rocked so hard. <3

Just to ask.. I am black and like all of the things u said.. does that apply to black people to cause i heard bleach kills black people hair and drys it out????
